Drones are fun. New drones are exciting. Pizza is delicious. But in reality, how many people actually want a drone delivering their pizzas.
Over the past six years or so, there have a been a handful of novel delivery drone ideas geared toward the food industry. Just last week Domino’s Pizzas released delivery drones in New Zealand for a trial run. The company is hoping to provide regular drone delivery service by the end of the year in that area.
However, a recent poll conducted by YouGov, revealed that majority of Americans are not crazy about the thought of having a drone deliver their pizza. Only 35% of people ages 18 and older think drones are even capable of delivering pizza successfully.
The study also revealed that only 32% of people trust that the drone will release the food at the right location and place and only 34% expected that their order would be hot when it arrived.
On the bright side, though, about half of the respondents said that they do expect the order to at least arrive on time and to the right address. According to YouGov, people ages 18 to 34 seemed to be more trusting of the new high-tech delivery process as compared to older adults.
When asked which delivery service they would trust the most, 38% of participants said Amazon, 23% said the U.S. Postal Service, 20% said Google, and 19% said Walmart.
The study proved that there’s still much resistance to this new technology. Overall, 39% of adults would not trust drone deliveries, no matter which company was running the service.
