Maxim’s Multi-Phase AI Power Chipset for 95%+ Efficiency and Smallest Total Size
Maxim has now made available to designers of high-performance, high-power artificial intelligence (AI) systems the MAX16602 AI cores dual-output voltage regulator and the MAX20790 smart power-stage IC. The AI multi-phase chipset provides a one percent efficiency improvement over competitive solutions, enabling greater than 95 percent efficiency at 1.8V output voltage and 200A load conditions. It also allows 40 percent less output capacitance, reducing total solution size and capacitor count.
AI systems implemented with the MAX16602 and MAX20790 multi-phase chipset generate less heat and power loss is reduced as a result of a 50 percent lower switching frequency. The approach practically eliminates the parasitic resistance and inductance between FETs and drivers to achieve the industry’s highest efficiency.
Advantages, according to Maxim, include the highest efficiency and lowest heat and power dissipation, smallest total size solution and greater flexibility.
