On March 1, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will launch GOES-T, the third satellite in the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites R series, and you can watch it on NASA TV.
Part of a series of weather observing and environmental monitoring system, GOES-T will be renamed GOES-18 upon reaching geostationary orbit. The satellite will cover the West Coast of the United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Central America, and the Pacific Ocean, providing critical meteorology data from those regions, allowing scientists to observe and predict local weather events.
Scheduled to launch March 1 at 4:38 p.m. EST on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V 541 rocket, the satellite blasts off from Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. NASA TV’s live lift-off coverage of the event begins at 4 p.m. on NASA Television, the NASA app, and their website.
