ROHM and Valeo Collaborate to Revolutionize Electric Powertrains

ROHM Semiconductor and Valeo, a leading player in automotive technology, are advancing the future of electric mobility through a groundbreaking collaboration. By combining ROHM’s expertise in power electronics with Valeo’s strength in mechatronics, thermal management, and software development, the two companies are developing next-generation power modules for electric motor inverters. This partnership is poised to redefine energy efficiency and performance in electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).

A Partnership Rooted in Innovation

Since 2022, ROHM and Valeo have been working together to enhance the motor inverter—a critical component in the propulsion systems of EVs and PHEVs. ROHM is providing its 2-in-1 Silicon Carbide (SiC) molded module, the TRCDRIVE pack™, to optimize Valeo’s powertrain solutions. The collaboration focuses on improving inverter cost-effectiveness and efficiency by reducing heat generation, increasing energy efficiency, and refining mechatronic integration through advanced SiC packaging.

Valeo’s mission to electrify mobility spans a diverse range of vehicles, from eBikes to eTrucks. By integrating ROHM’s SiC modules, Valeo is pushing the boundaries of automotive innovation, contributing to decarbonization efforts and the global shift toward electrified mobility.

The Role of Silicon Carbide (SiC)

SiC technology is at the heart of this collaboration. Unlike traditional silicon-based components, SiC offers lower energy loss during high-voltage operations, making it ideal for traction inverters in EVs. ROHM’s TRCDRIVE pack™ achieves high power density and features a unique terminal configuration that addresses key challenges in traction inverter design, such as miniaturization and efficiency.

When combined with Valeo’s advanced casing designs and thermal management expertise, the result is a highly efficient and compact inverter that meets the increasing demands of modern EVs, including longer ranges and faster charging capabilities.

Driving the Future of Mobility

ROHM and Valeo’s collaboration is not just about technical advancements; it’s about setting new industry standards. “We are pleased to support Valeo with our power semiconductors,” said Wolfram Harnack, President of ROHM Semiconductor GmbH. “Together, we contribute to the development of highly efficient powertrains.”

Xavier Dupont, CEO of Valeo’s Power Division, emphasized the significance of the partnership: “Together, we aim to set new industry standards for high-voltage inverters and accelerate the transition towards more efficient and affordable electric mobility.”

Meeting Growing Demands for xEVs

The partnership addresses critical needs in the EV market: better energy efficiency, increased reliability, and compact designs. These improvements are essential for delivering the longer ranges and faster charging times that consumers expect from EVs and PHEVs. Valeo plans to begin supplying its next-generation inverters to the market in early 2026, marking a significant step toward achieving these goals.

Toward a Decarbonized Future

By leveraging their combined expertise, ROHM and Valeo are making strides in automotive power electronics, contributing to a more sustainable future. The innovations stemming from this partnership promise to enhance the performance of electric powertrains, reduce environmental impact, and accelerate the adoption of electric mobility worldwide.
