Yesterday, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced that a new wearable device will hit stores next week, on September 16.
The Pokémon GO Plus is a companion device that connects to your phone over Bluetooth Smart, similar to the tech used in your health and fitness applications, and will allow users to keep their phones in their pocket to catch Pokémon.
“We’ve been testing it here at Niantic and we love the way it allows you to blend Pokémon GO even more seamlessly into family and fitness activities,” said The Pokémon Company, in a press release.
The wearable removes the awkward need to constantly look at your phone’s screen to play the game.
The wearable works by alerting users if they pass a PokéStop by vibrating, lighting up, and notifying you of its location . Users will also be able to collect new items by simply clicking the Pokémon GO Plus. If there’s nearby Pokémon hiding in the area wearers will be alerted with lights and vibrations, so they can catch them using the button on Pokémon GO Plus and then continue on their way. Later, users can check their Journal to find out which Pokémon was captured.
Pokémon GO Plus will be available on September 16, 2016 in most countries and later in the year in a few South American territories.
