AI Steps In to Help Embedded Engineers with Routine Code Tasks

Developing embedded systems often means juggling multiple components, each with its own unique code library, initialization requirements, and integration hurdles. With the latest release of NECTO Studio, MIKROE is aiming to simplify that process—and significantly speed it up.

Version 7.2 of the company’s integrated development environment introduces the NECTO Code Assistant, an AI-powered tool designed to streamline the creation of multi-Click projects. It’s not just about writing code faster—it’s about writing smarter, more accurate code that’s ready to run.

The assistant leverages MIKROE’s vast ecosystem of over 1,800 Click boards™—modular add-on boards that allow developers to quickly integrate peripherals like sensors, displays, and communications modules into their designs. While these Click boards come with helpful libraries, combining multiple boards into one project has historically required extra effort. That’s where NECTO Code Assistant comes in.

By intelligently merging the code and initialization routines from several Click boards, the Assistant eliminates repetitive tasks and potential setup errors. It also visually displays the final result on the TFT screen, making it easy to validate functionality early in development.

Beyond code generation, the Assistant offers in-line guidance, explains functions, and recommends best practices—helping even experienced developers avoid common pitfalls. It can also surface datasheet information contextually, speeding up research and reducing the need to switch between resources.

This update isn’t just about AI, either. NECTO Studio 7.2 expands its reach with support for nearly 400 new MCUs, over 170 development boards, and 25 additional MCU cards. Notably, more than 200 of the supported MCUs are from Microchip, making the platform especially useful for engineers building on that hardware.

For newcomers, the IDE includes an Interactive Guided Tour, walking users through project setup and configuration with real-time assistance—removing the learning curve that can sometimes come with powerful platforms.

With the launch of NECTO Studio 7.2, MIKROE continues to prove its commitment to saving developers time and effort, combining AI innovation with robust hardware support in a single, user-friendly environment.
