Because Every Home Needs a Levitating Lamp

Does anybody wish that their desk lamp could levitate? Well, you’re in luck. Italian makers and designers, Damiano Iannini and Ferdinando Petrella, are giving you just that with Levia.

Levia is a marble top levitating LED lamp, designed with an anti-fall system and energy efficiency. It works via electromagnetic induction and magnetic levitation, has no internal batteries and produces warm light.

The magnetic levitation system integrates a method by which one object is suspended on another, thanks to a magnetic field which can combat the gravitational pull effect. It allows the levitation of an LED filament lamp with very high energy efficiency.

The Levia desk lamp is the result of Italian craftsmanship is cut by CNC machinery and hand-finished for a polished look.

The stem’s length allows the LED filament bulb to levitate at a height of about 20 cm from the ground above marble base: the effect is a perfect balance between the shapes and the levitation distance.

While the center of gravity is completely unbalanced because of the metal stem’s extension outwards with the levitation system and the floating bulb at the end. However, it’s perfectly counterbalanced by the marble base.

Levia includes a touch-sensitive button that allows users to switch off the LED filaments with a single touch by keeping the light bulb in levitation at the same time.

What’s inside?

Levia is managed by three electronic boards: one placed in the marble base, one in the levitation system and one in the light bulb. The levitation of the light bulb is very effective and extremely stable due to bi-directional and automatic management of the device.

The company has just days left in its Kickstarter campaign to raise production funds but has already seen backer totals upwards of $27,000.

So, as it seems, people really do want a levitating lamp in their home.
