Bringing America’s Next Top Model to your bedroom
Imagine waking up first thing and having a personal shopping assistant to help you chose your outfit for the day. Well your imagination can become reality with Amazon’s new ‘Echo Look’, a virtual assistant which is an Alexa embedded device including a camera for hands-free photos or videos of you posing or twirling.
Still obeying to commands, the assistant can now recognize sayings such as; “Alexa, take a picture” and “Take a video Alexa”. As you spin around the clever little device will capture you from all angles, or you could even use real time. Whilst always remaining hands-free.
Although there is no built-in display users can access what the Look sees on their handset. The Echo Look aims to work as a style checker using machine learning combined with style expert opinions, so works in conjunction with Amazon’s Style Check which is a feature of the Echo Look app, that uses the machine learning to compare different outfit choices and then awarding them an overall style rating, move over Vivienne Westwood.
The Style Check will also prompt you for a location and time so it can check and suggest an outfit that is weather appropriate.
Pitched as the ultimate bedroom companion this AI assistant Alexa stands up on its on with four LEDs for the perfect lighting, a depth sensing system and of course a microphone to hear your commands.
Producing ‘computer vision-based’ images, the device will also blur the backgrounds so you can look yourself in full-length selfies.
Comparing outfits you can take multiple pictures to then compare them at the same time whilst Alexa will judge which one is more ‘in fashion’ and ‘suits your figure’ at that time and give the outfits scores.
Amazon commented on the Echo Look: “Style Check keeps your look on point using advanced machine-learning algorithms and advice from fashion specialists. Submit two photos for a second opinion on which outfit looks best on you based on fit, color, styling and current trends.”
The company have also made the promise that the more people on board with the product the better it will become, and more fashion advisors will pitch in.
As a bonus the Echo Look does perform all the other qualities and commands that the other Echo devices include such as asking questions, setting alarms, playing music and so many more.
The all-seeing camera and microphone can be switched off for peace of mind, but the device is currently only being sold on an invitation only basis at $199, but I am sure there will be a long queue of selfie-queens ready to purchase this one.
