Concurrent dual WiFi built for next-gen connected vehicles
Storage, networking, and connectivity semiconductor solution provider, Marvell, has introduced a high efficiency wireless 802.11ax solution with 2×2 plus 2×2 concurrent dual WiFi, dual-mode Bluetooth 5/Bluetooth Low Energy and 802.11p for connected vehicles.
The new 88Q9098 combo solution enables gigabit-level performance, superior reliability, and enhanced security for the car and extends Marvell’s leadership in providing comprehensive 802.11ax solutions. Marvell’s innovative concurrent dual WiFi architecture sets a new technology precedent, integrating two complete WiFi subsystems into a single SoC, and enabling two independent 2×2 data streams to run concurrently and at full throughput.
One use case demanding this capability is when one WiFi radio is dedicated to mobile phone projection while the other is streaming video to and from mobile/accessory devices in the car. The 88Q9098 enables reuse of a single solution across infotainment and telematics applications, delivering market-leading multimedia streaming, secure over-the-air updates, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication and hot-spot functionality.
Consumers require the same secure, reliable, and high performance connection in the car that they have at home. Delivering this experience is becoming more difficult in the increasingly congested and connected world of the automobile. In designing the 88Q9098, Marvell combined technology in WiFi 802.11ax solutions with expertise in developing secure automotive connectivity solutions.
Purpose-built for the car, this SoC offers the most complete set of automotive features, including 802.11p to support vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V), Bluetooth Low Energy Long Range to enable new connectivity to your phone and key fob from up to 500m, and customizable firmware to enable OEMs to enhance and differentiate their solutions. The 88Q9098 also meets the stringent quality, reliability and temperature standards required for automotive AEC-Q100 grade 2 operation from -40 up to +105°C.
Mark Montierth, Vice President and General Manager, Wireless Connectivity Business Unit at Marvell Semiconductor, stated: “As an industry leader in automotive networking and connectivity, Marvell is accelerating access to the industry’s most advanced WiFi and Bluetooth technologies. The Marvell 88Q9098 delivers the industry’s first 802.11ax concurrent dual WiFi, Bluetooth 5 and 802.11p combo solution designed for the feature, security, and quality needs of the automotive market.”
