Ford and Google Join to Reinvent Connected Vehicle Experience
Ford and Google announced a first-of-its-kind partnership with the goal of creating unique services and capabilities for Ford and Lincoln customers, and to accelerate Ford’s transformation plan, reinventing the connected vehicle experience. Beginning in 2023, millions of future Ford and Lincoln vehicles at all price points will be powered by Android, with Google apps and services built-in as a part of the six-year partnership.
The two companies are creating a collaborative group, Team Upshift, to push the boundaries of Ford’s transformation, unlock personalized consumer experiences, and drive disruptive data-driven opportunities.
Google will help Ford leverage Google Cloud’s AI, ML, and data analytics technologies to accelerate digital transformation, modernize operations, and power connected vehicle technologies with Google’s trusted, secure, and reliable cloud. With Google Cloud, Ford plans to improve customer experience, accelerate product development, manufacturing and supply chain management, including exploration of vision AI for manufacturing employee training and even more reliable plant equipment performance. It will also fast-track the implementation of data-driven business models so that customers receive real-time notices such as maintenance requests or trade-in alerts.
The built-in Google Assistant will allow Ford drivers to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel using voice commands and Google Maps will enable drivers to reach their destination faster with information on real-time traffic, automatic rerouting, and lane guidance.
