Hypervisor foundation created for platform software solution
Lynx Software Technologies, a leader in safe and secure systems development, and ETAS, a leader in innovative embedded software solutions for the automotive industry, have announced that, together with Robert Bosch, they are jointly working to provide the safe and secure hypervisor foundation for the ETAS RTA-VRTE platform software solution incorporating the AUTOSAR Adaptive Platform standard.
RTA-VRTE supports the next generation of cross-domain and vehicle computer ECUs being introduced in upcoming vehicles. ETAS is offering an early access package for the RTA-VRTE platform including training and consulting to help users get started quickly.
Lynx and ETAS first announced their collaboration in March 2017 at the Embedded World conference in Nuremberg. Under this developing partnership, ETAS has added the LynxSecure Separation Kernel Hypervisor to its automotive software stack, for significantly enhanced ECU and vehicle computer security and safe system separation for the next-gen of domain controllers and vehicle computer ECUs.
Nigel Tracey, Head of RTA Solutions at ETAS, commented: “We are delighted to announce the first tangible fruits of our partnership with Lynx after just one year.”
He continued, “Lynx’s recent announcement that LynxSecure was immune to Meltdown and provides considerable mitigation against Spectre demonstrates conclusively that we selected the right partner to take us forward to our objective of delivering vehicle computer platform software that is safe and secure by design.”
John Blevins, Director of Products at Lynx Software Technologies added: “Widespread roll-out of connected, electrified and autonomous vehicles requires the introduction of cross-domain and vehicle computer ECUs. These ECUs require a strong foundation of trust in their safety and security. To build that trust, they need to be secured from the vulnerabilities and exploits that have plagued the history of computing. I believe that ETAS and Lynx together have produced a platform for high performance vehicle computers that is secure by design and effectively supports innovation.”
ETAS is supporting LynxSecure with a version of the RTA-BSW AUTOSAR solution, the RTA-VRTE AUTOSAR Adaptive Platform and the ESCRYPT embedded security solution to run within the lightweight isolated virtual machine containers of LynxSecure. This combination forms a complete software platform, available from ETAS, designed to address real time automotive use-cases which demand the highest level of safety and security.
The LynxSecure Separation Kernel allows powerful multi-core microprocessor-based hardware to be partitioned and isolated into different virtual machines allowing software applications to co-exist while providing freedom from interference. The LynxSecure Separation Kernel technology also offers the LynxSecure Application virtual machine containers. These bare-metal virtual machines are highly efficient allowing application code to run directly on the microprocessor without the need for a guest operating system.
