By incorporating advanced half-bridge switch technology and a novel POWeDIP package, the new IC increases continuous power capabilities while permitting brief peak loads of up to 2.5 kW. This breakthrough enables manufacturers to design compact, fully sealed power solutions that eliminate the need for air vents or cooling fans—enhancing reliability and protecting against environmental hazards such as dust, moisture, and debris.

Advanced Design Reducing Complexity

The HiperLCS-2 chipset simplifies the design of half-bridge LLC resonant power converters by reducing component count and board area by 30 to 60 percent for applications above 50 W. The thermally efficient POWeDIP package integrates an electrically insulating, thermally conductive ceramic pad that easily attaches to any flat, heat-sinking surface, offering exceptional thermal performance with a rating of less than 1 degree Celsius per watt.

The chipset includes two key components:

  • HiperLCS2-HB (Primary Side): Features 600 V FREDFETs in a half-bridge configuration, along with self-bias and start-up control to eliminate the need for an external bias supply, simplifying system design.
  • HiperLCS2-SR (Secondary Side): Incorporates a synchronous rectification (SR) master controller to optimize output rectification efficiency. It also features Power Integrations’ FluxLink isolator, which provides high-speed, robust feedback without the need for an optocoupler, improving reliability and system response time.

The IC further supports multi-mode burst operation, ensuring superior efficiency at light and no-load conditions while eliminating audible noise and reducing output ripple. Comprehensive fault protection mechanisms safeguard against potential system failures, further enhancing reliability.
