ROHM’s EcoSiC Technology Powers COSEL’s New High-Efficiency 3.5kW AC-DC Power Supply Units

ROHM Semiconductor has announced the integration of its advanced EcoSiC™ technology in COSEL’s latest HFA and HCA series 3.5kW AC-DC power supply units for 3-phase industrial applications. These power supplies utilize ROHM’s silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFETs and SiC Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs) to deliver exceptional efficiency of up to 94%. While the HCA series has been in mass production since 2023, the HFA series followed suit in 2024.

Meeting the Demands of High-Power Industrial Applications

In industrial environments where high power is essential—such as in MRI machines and CO₂ lasers—3-phase power supplies are a critical requirement. Unlike single-phase household power supplies, these systems demand higher reliability and efficiency to operate effectively. COSEL’s HFA and HCA series, equipped with ROHM’s EcoSiC technology, are designed to meet these rigorous demands. These units are compatible with 3-phase power supplies ranging from 200VAC to 480VAC, ensuring global compatibility while boosting efficiency across a wide range of high-power industrial equipment.

Key Benefits of ROHM’s EcoSiC Technology

ROHM’s EcoSiC technology excels in handling high-temperature, high-frequency, and high-voltage conditions, making it ideal for industrial power applications. By incorporating SiC MOSFETs and SBDs, COSEL’s HFA and HCA series achieve significantly lower losses compared to traditional power devices. This allows the units to maintain superior power density and efficiency, even under demanding conditions.

HFA and HCA Series: Versatile Solutions for Global Applications

Designed for global industrial use, the HFA and HCA series feature a wide input range of 200VAC to 480VAC, eliminating the need for regional modifications. This simplifies application design and enhances standardization. Available in forced-air-cooled (HFA) and conduction-cooled (HCA) models, these units are tailored to different operational environments and come in 48V and 65V output variants. Their robust design makes them ideal for powering high-demand applications, including laser systems and medical imaging equipment like MRIs.

A Step Forward in Sustainable Power Solutions

The collaboration between ROHM and COSEL demonstrates a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability. By leveraging cutting-edge SiC technology, the HFA and HCA series provide a pathway to more efficient and reliable industrial power systems, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for high-power applications worldwide.
