SMD filter exhibits low insertion loss
A 2.9GHz 0805 high performance, low pass Integrated Thin Film (ITF) SMD filter that exhibits low insertion loss and extremely sharp roll-off in high frequency (1.7-2.9GHz) has been released by AVX Corporation. Used for many wireless applications, including: mobile communications systems, microcell and picocell base stations, satellite TV receivers, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), vehicle location systems and wireless Large Area Networks (LANs).
Based on thin film multilayer technology, the 2.9GHz filter delivers excellent high frequency performance, and features an ultra miniature 0805 chip size with a rugged construction for reliable automatic assembly.
“Wireless electronics engineers are constantly challenged to create smaller end products, and rely on advanced electronic components to achieve designs that satisfy these requirements,” said Larry Eisenberger, Principal Technical Marketing Engineer at AVX. “Our new 2.9GHz high performance, low pass ITF filter provides wireless systems engineers with peak performance and quality in an ultra miniature 0805 chip size especially designed for the smaller and more crowded PCBs that next-gen wireless electronics are based on. Samples of the initial release have been well received, and plans to extend this range of high performance filters to cover the 1.8-3.5GHz range are already in the works.”
Measuring just 2.03×1.55×1.02mm, the new low profile, low pass 2.9GHz filter is rated for 4W continuous power, and operating and storage temperatures spanning -40 to +100°C. Featuring characteristic impedance of 50Ω and nickel/lead-free-solder (Sn100) coated terminations compatible with automatic soldering technologies (reflow, wave soldering, vapor phase and manual), the RoHS compliant filters are 100% tested for electrical parameters and both visual and mechanical characteristics, and are shipped on tape and reel.
