Thanks To This 3D Laser Printer You Can Make Your Own Drone That Shoots Rubberbands

Drones are pretty cool. Rubberband guns are also pretty cool. Why not combine the two? Well, it has finally happened. Now anyone can make their own rubberband-launching drone right from a desktop 3D laser printer.

First you’ll need to get your hands on a Glowforge printer though. And might I add, this will be no inexpensive task.  Glowforge isn’t one of those traditional 3D printers that use additive manufacturing, building materials layer by layer. Instead, it employs subtractive manufacturing so you’ll start with a material (for instance, wood, leather or acrylic) and the printer will use a laser light to carve out your desired end product.

Glowforge is compatible with your Mac, PC, or tablet and the software can be found on the web. However, you don’t necessarily need to download it, you can print right from the company’s catalog or draw right on the material so the printer can scan your unique design.

For the next 26 days, the company is boasting its 50% off pre-order sale, so you can purchase a Glowforge for as low as $4,000 (instead of $8,000). (Shipping begins in December.) They must be a pretty hot item considering the company sold over $3 million worth of printers in just four days.

Once you have a printer, you can create a drone with dual rubberband gatling guns for a little over $700 in materials in just 2.5 hours.

The company does provide some simpler and less expensive projects which can be found on the Glowforge website.
