On Apple’s YouTube account there are some new uploads, as Apple is trying out something a bit different but at the same time very exciting. Rather than adding more videos and ads about how great the iPhone is, there are a series of short tutorials that have been published about how to actually use the camera.
With all the videos lasting around 40 seconds long, they can just about focus on the very basics in terms of photography with the iPhone, for example shooting a panorama, or using portrait mode.
Apple has also added a few general photography tips too. Some of these include how to shoot a decent photo but in lower lighting, and getting lower to achieve better and more unique angles.
A personal favorite is the top tips on how to shoot during ‘golden hour’ which includes instructions on where to stand in terms of sunlight and controls on exposure – helpful.
These videos can be very useful to anyone that is a novice photographer, which is most people, so photography students stay away.
One interesting feature is the style Apple has chosen, all the videos look as if you are using the iPhone camera first hand, and they are vertical so it looks like it would on a phone. Add to this the electronic music and simplistic text, and the videos seem very easy to understand.
Apple has also added these to their own site, with a few extra ones – check them out here.
With the iPhone having been round for a while, you may think why now? However, in recent years there has been a lot of skepticism towards the iPhone camera, and Apple has been trying to play this up as a winning feature of the phone.
Looking forward to seeing the tutorials that Samsung come up with, but for now enjoy a tutorial on ‘how to shoot during golden hour’ below.
