Tieto strengthens its Artificial Intelligence capabilities
Artificial intelligence is rapidly moving into businesses, and the technology is fundamentally reshaping society. To strengthen and expand its AI capabilities, Tieto has recruited Christian Guttmann, a renowned and world-leading expert in the field of AI. In his new role, Christian drives fast-growing and innovative business opportunities for Tieto’s customers.
Christian is professor (adj. assoc.) and entrepreneur with a background from world-leading scientific institutes, startups and corporations. At Tieto he seizes opportunities in the cross-section of advanced science and industry, with focus on AI, machine learning, computer science and big data.
Christian’s unique knowledge and expertise further accelerates and unleashes the significant societal and business potential in the Nordics and globally. “With our team we can create AI services and solutions that benefit the society as a whole,” said Ari Järvelä, head of Tieto’s Data-driven Business unit.

Christian joins Tieto as the Global Head of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science and Chief Artificial Intelligence Scientist (Vice President). He holds an adjunct position as a professor (assoc.) at the University of New South Wales in Australia, and is an adjunct researcher at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. He is also the Executive Director of the Nordic AI Institute. In addition, he has started and worked in many startups over the last 25 years, and in the world’s largest American and European IT companies. In his new role, Christian will continue to be deeply involved in the sciences and startup world.
Tieto has developed several AI and data-driven projects and last year Tieto and the City of Espoo initiated a unique data-driven experiment. The project consists in combining a vast amount of social and health data to analyse and identify new proactive means of targeting services to citizens and prevent social exclusion.
